Report: Upamecano close to renewing Bayern Munich contract
7.01.2026, 12:04
France defender Dayot Upamecano is close to renewing his contract at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich beyond the season, the Bild paper reported on Wednesday.
Bild said that "only final details" needed to be discussed after long talks, while both sides have reached an agreement on issues including a release clause and a signing-on fee.
Upamecano, 27, is also to earn more than in his current deal after joining Bayern in 2021 from league rivals RB Leipzig for €42.5 million ($49.8 million).
The centre back said on Tuesday: "There is no pressure for me. I hope there will be a solution soon. I have no deadline."
Upamecano can leave for free in summer amid reported interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. He voiced understanding for Bayern's aim to have a renewal soon, saying: "All good. I am very satisfied to play at a big club."
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has said he hoped that Upamecano will stay, and Bild quoted club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen as saying on Sunday during a fan club visit that Bayern have made Upamecano an improved offer.
" This has already been discussed several times with his advisers and now again with him personally," Dreesen said.
"I think he should sign what's on the table now, because it's not going to get any better. We've made him an exceptionally good offer because he's been playing very well for a year and a half now. He's certainly one of the best centre-backs in the world."
