Fewer tourists have visited Berlin this year than last, meaning an important milestone will not be reached in 2025, the head of the city's tourist company said.

Fewer tourists have visited Berlin this year than last, meaning an important milestone will not be reached in 2025, the head of the city's tourist company said.

"We will end up just below 30 million (overnight stays),’ Burkhard Kieker, head of Visit Berlin, told the Tagesspiegel newspaper for a story published online on Friday.

In 2024, 30.6 million overnight stays were recorded in the capital.

By the end of October, the Berlin-Brandenburg Statistics Office had recorded 24.8 million overnight stays – 4.1% less than in the same period last year.

Asked why the number of visits is not steadily increasing to reach the pre-coronavirus days of 2019, Kieker said, this "is primarily due to consumer sentiment in Germany and Europe and the failure of the economy to pick up."

He also referred to the figures for Berlin-Brandenburg Airport, which
"is still 30% below pre-coronavirus levels, and in tourism we are about 9% below that."
