Suspected far-right extremists dressed up as Santa Claus handed out anti-immigrant leaflets in the Munich underground, police in the Bavarian capital said on Wednesday.

Police are investigating the incident after witnesses reported several people on the U6 line handing out leaflets in the form of red and white "boarding passes" with phrases such as "from Germany to your home country."

The stunt has been attributed to the "Lederhosen Revolt," a group linked to the far-right Identitarian Movement.

The extremist movement espouses racist and Islamophobic views and has sought to garner media attention through unusual protests. It portrays itself as a "patriotic youth movement" with branches nationwide and intensive use of social media.

Its ideology views ethnic origin alone as determining German nationality, and the group has also openly called for "remigration," the forced repatriation of immigrant communities and foreign-born German citizens.

The probe into the latest stunt is being led by the Bavarian security service, which is investigating on suspicion of incitement to hatred.
