Bayern chief asks German FA to reconsider amid women's league spat

Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen on Tuesday called on German Football Federation president Bernd Neuendorf to talk again with his organization amid a row over the formation of a new women's league body.

The body will be launched by Germany's 14 women's top-flight teams on Wednesday, but the federation (DFB) will play no part after clubs alleged it had gone back on previous agreements.

"It not only irritated us 14 clubs, but also came as a complete surprise," Dreesen told dpa.

"It is important to me to emphasise that our relationship with president Bernd Neuendorf is intact and that we appreciate his commitment to promoting women's football. We will see whether he discusses the issue internally ... again."

The league association was meant to be a joint venture with the DFB, which currently runs the women's Bundesliga, but negotiations broke down last week just as Germany was awarded the hosting rights to the women's 2029 Euros.

Club bosses stress that they will invest far more for the new league body than the €100 million ($116 million) the DFB announced for an eight-year period.

The DFB wanted a two-thirds majority for all decisions in a management body with equal representation. The clubs opposed this and also allege the DFB sought a clause in the agreement that would have allowed the federation to exit the deal after a certain period.

Bayern's Dreesen added: "The clubs want to invest more than €700 million in this period. This figure alone makes it clear who is bearing the entrepreneurial risk and is primarily driving the promotion of German women's professional football.

"In a joint company, where there is a deadlock, the partner with the significantly higher economic risk has the casting vote. All of this had already been discussed."
