Woman stabbed to death on the street in Germany's Ingolstadt

A woman has been fatally stabbed on the street in the southern German city of Ingolstadt, with her former male partner considered the main suspect, police reported on Saturday.

Police said that the 45-year-old woman had been admitted to hospital but had died shortly afterwards. Her 49-year-old ex-partner is currently in hospital with serious injuries, where he is under police guard.

The two are reported to have gotten into an argument on Friday evening. The suspect is believed to have attacked his former partner with a kitchen knife.

The dead woman's two sons, aged 23 and 17, attempted to intervene to protect their mother, hitting and kicking her assailant. One of them suffered a slight injury to his hand, according to the police spokesman.

Police cordoned off the area on Friday evening and questioned witnesses.
