RB Leipzig and Germany defender Benjamin Henrichs is set to miss the rest of the season as his club confirmed on Saturday that he has ruptured his Achilles tendon.
Full back Henrichs suffered the injury away from the ball in the dying seconds of Friday's 5-1 Bundesliga defeat at Bayern Munich.
"Benjamin Henrichs suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in his right foot in last night's match against FC Bayern," Leipzig said on X.
"The defender underwent examinations on Saturday to confirm the diagnosis and will undergo surgery in Munich on Monday, leaving him sidelined for several months."
Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer spoke of "a shock for Benny and another big blow for us."
It is the latest injury blow for Leipzig who had Xaver Schlager, Xavi Simons and David Raum sidelined for months.
Schäfer said that Leipzig may sign a new player in the January transfer window to compensate for the long absence of Henrichs. Lukas Klostermann and Lutsharel Geertruida would be possible options on the left from the existing squad.
