Eintracht Frankfurt will bid farewell to their former long-time goalkeeper Kevin Trapp ahead of their Champions League opener on Thursday against Galatasaray.

Germany keeper Trapp left Frankfurt in summer for French league side Paris FC. He played 383 matches for the Bundesliga during two spells over 10 years, highlighted by the Europa League title in 2022.

"For years, he was one of the faces of Eintracht, captain and leading player, and contributed significantly to our successes," board member for sport Markus Krösche said.

Board spokesman Axel Hellmann recently named Trapp "a legend, an icon and for me the greatest and most significant goalkeeper we have ever had in an Eintracht Frankfurt shirt."

Frankfurt have qualified for the Champions League via their Bundesliga placing for the first time after coming third in the top flight last term. They qualified in 2022 via the Europa League win.

"For us, there are only opportunities, no risks," Krösche said ahead of the league phase where Frankfurt also face Liverpool, Barcelona, Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur and Atlético Madrid.

"It's good for the lads to compete with the best in Europe and also for us as a club to see where we stand. For us, it's a sensational situation to be playing in the Champions League again.

"We want to bring our football to the pitch. Then we'll see how many points we can get in the end," Krösche said.
